I know this is a little late, but I wanted to bring up the reason why Kanai suddenly decides to go on this perilous adventure with Piya and Fokir as a translator. As we know, Fokir and Piya have been able to communicate very well without language. However, language is a much easier form of communication. By inserting himself into the game, Kanai now controls and monitors all communication between Piya. It’s sort of sick and deluded. Kanai’s masculinity was threatened by a lower class man, Fokir. Kanai is attempting to reclaim his illusionary masculinity. How he didn’t get maimed is beyond me.
