Agreed. I think that Yuki and Jack’s relationship at this point in time resembles the American perspective of Asia as a child. When Jack tells her to only speak to him, it is like the way parents will sometimes tell their kids to “speak only when spoken to” at dinner or large events. Yuki is often treated like a child by Jack, who clearly claims ownership over her by calling her “my wife” in a domineering way whenever she says something he does not like.Although Jack may find Yuki alluring and claims to love her, there is a sense that he wishes to tame her as well. This is much like the old western view that Asians are child-like and do not know how to take care of themselves, and so they asserted their dominance through colonization.
